Confirmation Class Starts Jan. 18th

Below is the letter that was sent out to all students who are of Confirmation age.  If you are new and didn’t receive one or for some reason we missed you, and you are in 8th grade, please plan on joining us!

Dear Parents and Students,

confirmation-footprint-picWe are excited for your student to begin the confirmation process here at Mandarin United Methodist Church. The best way I know to describe confirmation is an opportunity for students to con”firm” their faith. Or to make firm their faith. This process will walk students through what it means to be a Christian and what it means to be a Methodist. It is a special time in the life of our students. Our confirmation class will begin during Sunday School on January 18th. We hope to see your student here to participate in this great opportunity to make their faith firm.

Confirmation is going to run from January 18 – May 17, 2015. The class will meet every Sunday in the confirmation Sunday School Class room (Room 427), upstairs in the youth area.   During these weeks students will study the Creedo curriculum and learn the basis of Christian faith along with history of the United Methodist Church. It will truly be an exciting time in the life of your student.  Mike Overton and Mike Curry will be the base teachers for the confirmation class, but we will have special speakers like Pastor Debbie, Pastor Jeff and other staff members come and share topics that are near and dear to who they are as Christians and United Methodists. Through the process your student will get to learn who they are as Christians, but also get to know who our church staff is, why they do what they do and what they are passionate about. We want students to take this commitment seriously and any student who does not attend more than 50% of the classes will not get confirmed.

Our confirmation retreat is April 17-19. Our confirmation retreat will be at Epworth by the Sea camp on St. Simon’s Island in Georgia and have a fun weekend of learning and growing. The cost for the trip is $150 and I highly encourage students to attend. I understand a few of you may have conflict, but I encourage everyone else to attend. April 12th at 4:30pm in the Kasey Mogle there will be a parents meeting to discuss packing list and other specifics. You can sign your student up for the trip at the link on our youth website one10youth.com.

Also mark May 17th on your calendar, May 17 is Confirmation Sunday where students will be made firm in their faith.

We hope that you and your student are excited for everything that is coming up! If you have any questions please contact Chad Deetz our director of Youth Ministries.

The cost this year is $350 that includes lift tickets, rentals, lodging and food. We have somewhat limited space so sign up quickly.
